"Whenever I bring up the subject of impeccable service with Roanokers, one restaurant name always floats to the top: Alexander's."
David Landsel, travel writer N.Y. Post | March 3, 2009
"Of course, you also can't miss crawfish, shrimp and grits with tasso cream (or whatever else they've got going) at Alexander's on Jefferson Street. There are more restaurants, but start with this."
Frommer's Review January 2009 | Alexander's: Very Highly Recommended
In operation since 1979, Alexander's was the first trendy restaurant to open during downtown's Renaissance, and it's still one of the best. The pinkish lighting, widely spaced tables, and extraordinarily attentive waitstaff make this a great place for special occasions. Using organic meats, vegetables, and cheeses, the New American menu blends the classics with flavors from Louisiana, Asia, and the Mediterranean. Veal Alexander, with lump crabmeat and a hollandaise sauce, is a regular, as is shrimp étouffée with grits cakes, which will exercise your taste buds.

Oh, Roanoke! Gifted Gourmet is right. Alexander's has the best food in town these days, and has had for awhile. They are open for lunch on Wednesdays, but you will have to fight my Daddy to get a spot.
